All Document Locations in Silent Hill Townfall

ANSWER // DIRECT

Documents are the largest collectible set in Silent Hill: Townfall and the only one with two trophies — Observation at 50% and the gold trophy Thorough Inspection for the complete set. They are also functional rather than decorative: when a locked object needs a code, the clue is typically in a scattered document, so missing documents can leave you stuck on a puzzle. Total counts and per-chapter locations have not been published by anyone yet, and we will not guess them.

Two trophies, one set

Documents are the only collectible type in the game with a gold trophy attached. Across a 37-trophy list with just five golds, that placement says a great deal about the workload.

The 50% milestone doubles as a progress gauge. If Observation has not fired by the time you reach CEG Tower, you are searching too lightly.

Documents are puzzle answers

The confirmed puzzle pattern is that a locked object wants a combination, and you find the clue by searching scattered documents in the area.

That makes document collection load-bearing. A missed readable is not just a missing entry in a menu — it can be the code you need three rooms later.

The confirmed example is an organ donation box with a combination lock. Its code has not been shown publicly, and codes may well be randomised per save, which is another reason to read everything rather than look answers up.

How to search without dying

Enemies patrol the spaces you need to search, and detection is sensitive. Sweep with the CRTV first so you know where everything is before you commit to a room.

Use noise deliberately when a room is worth clearing time for: throwing a bottle or brick, switching on a radio or television, or setting off a car alarm all move a patrol somewhere else.

Hiding spots let you read in relative safety, and you can keep monitoring through CRTV static while you do.

Documents and the town's history

The official framing stresses atmosphere and history, with exploration gradually revealing St. Amelia's past and Simon's own connection to it.

Documents are the primary vehicle for that, alongside the strange postcards and the narrative logs unlocked by CRTV signals. Reading them is how the plot actually lands.

Practical collection advice

  • Read every readable on sight rather than banking them, in case the area changes
  • Note any number, name or date you see — one of them is probably a code
  • Search both the real-world and Otherworld versions of the same location
  • Check Observation's timing as a self-audit on how thorough you are being

What is not known yet

STATUS // UNVERIFIED

The total number of documents, their distribution by chapter, and whether any are permanently missable have no verifiable source, and Konami has published nothing on collectible counts. From September 22 this page becomes a per-chapter table listing area, document name, a short description and whether it can be missed — built from our own runs, not from other sites.

Why documents are worth prioritising

Of the five collectible types, documents are the one with a direct effect on whether you can progress. Codes for locked objects come from them, so skipping paper can mean standing in front of a lock you cannot open.

They are also the largest set by implication. Two trophies cover them — a silver at 50% and the only gold among the collectible trophies for the full set.

And they are the main vehicle for the story. The official framing emphasises atmosphere and history, with exploration gradually revealing the town's past and Simon's connection to it.

Where to expect documents

The confirmed story locations give the shortlist worth searching carefully: the Shorefront Family Clinic, the Medical Centre and its Otherworld counterpart, CEG Tower including the tenth-floor office, and the Alternate Facility.

Medical settings in particular imply paperwork as set dressing, which is the kind of place a code is likely to hide in plain sight.

This is reasoning about where to look, not a claim about what is there. A real table replaces it once we have collected them.

Reading for codes, not just for story

  • Note every number, date, name and initial you see
  • Keep track of which document a number came from, in case the lock is elsewhere
  • Re-read earlier documents when stuck — the clue may predate the lock by an hour
  • Remember that codes may be randomised per save, so your notes matter more than any website

The 50% checkpoint

Observation fires at half the documents, which makes it a useful self-audit rather than just a trophy. If it has not popped by CEG Tower, you are searching too lightly for a completion run.

Conversely, an early Observation suggests you are on pace for Thorough Inspection without a dedicated cleanup run.

Since the platinum requires New Game Plus regardless, a shortfall on run one is recoverable — it simply moves work into run two.

Searching safely in patrolled rooms

Reading takes time, and time is what enemy patrols take away. The sequence that works is sweep with the CRTV, confirm the room, then read.

When a room clearly holds a lot and cannot be cleared quickly, move the patrol rather than rushing: a thrown bottle or brick, a radio or television switched on, or a car alarm for a longer relocation.

Hiding spots double as reading spots, and you can keep watching through CRTV static while you are in one.

What the document table will contain

  • The chapter or story beat the document belongs to
  • The area and the specific spot it is found in
  • The document name as the game lists it
  • Whether it carries a puzzle code or is purely narrative
  • Whether it can be permanently missed

Silent Hill Townfall FAQ

How many documents are in Silent Hill Townfall?

No verifiable source gives a total. Konami has published no collectible counts, and we will not estimate one.

Why are documents important beyond the trophy?

They carry puzzle codes. When a locked object needs a combination, the clue is typically in a scattered document.

Which trophies cover documents?

Two: Observation at 50%, and Thorough Inspection for the complete set — the only gold among the collectible trophies.

Are any documents missable?

Unconfirmed. Because areas shift into Otherworld versions, treat anything you can pick up as potentially one-time.
