How to Beat The Weight in Silent Hill Townfall

Updated 2026-09-20 · Category: Monsters

ANSWER // DIRECT

The Weight is the one confirmed boss in Silent Hill: Townfall, fought at the end of the campaign — it comes directly after the Alternate Facility story beat, and defeating it awards the Eraser trophy. No verified strategy exists yet, because nobody outside the development team has fought it. What you can do is prepare correctly: you can lower combat difficulty to story at any point without losing any trophy, since the list contains no difficulty-related trophies at all.

Where the fight sits

The story trophy order places The Weight at the very end: after you exhaust your options in the Alternate Facility, the next beat is defeating it.

That makes this the campaign's climax rather than a midpoint obstacle, so expect to arrive with whatever the game has let you keep rather than with a fresh loadout.

The single most useful preparation

Combat difficulty has three settings — story, normal and nightmare — and the full 37-trophy list contains no difficulty-related trophies whatsoever.

That means dropping to story difficulty for a boss you are stuck on costs you nothing toward the platinum. It is the cleanest available answer to a wall.

Puzzle difficulty is a separate setting, so lowering combat difficulty does not simplify the puzzles either.

What to bring

Weapons available in the game are Plank, Pipe, Pistol, Shotgun, Flare Gun, Bottle and Brick, plus the Axe and the Pistol-3000 if you have found them.

  • A melee weapon you can block with — blocking is available while one is held
  • Whatever ammunition you have saved, since scarcity means a boss is what you saved it for
  • An IV bag, which absorbs one otherwise fatal hit at low health
  • Bottles and bricks, in case the encounter has anything to manipulate
  • Crafted items, since a trophy confirms combining items into new ones is possible

The combat rules that will apply

On normal difficulty, two or three hits kill you, and enemies have grab attacks that punish hesitation. There is no reason to expect a boss to be gentler.

Melee weapons degrade with use, so arriving with a nearly broken plank is a real risk. Conserve durability in the run-up rather than clearing optional encounters.

Firing a gun draws more enemies in. Whether that matters during a boss fight specifically is unknown, but it is the pattern the whole game runs on.

Saving before the fight

Manual saves happen at phone booths. Routing past one before the final stretch is ordinary good practice.

The exception is if you are attempting Reject The Help, the gold trophy that forbids phone saves after you meet Richard. In that case you are relying on autosaves, which flag themselves with the red square.

Why there is no strategy section here

STATUS // UNVERIFIED

The Weight's appearance, phase structure, weak points, attack patterns and recommended weapon are entirely unknown. No preview footage has shown the fight. Writing a fake strategy for a boss nobody has seen would waste your time at the worst possible moment in the game. A tested, phase-by-phase strategy goes up after we reach the fight ourselves from September 22.

What the name might suggest

The trophy for beating it is called Eraser, and the boss itself is The Weight. Both names point at something being removed or pressed down rather than at a creature description.

That fits a game whose protagonist arrives with a medical wristband and an IV bag, called back to put things right. The final obstacle being named for a burden is thematically legible.

It is not, however, a mechanic. We are noting the naming, not deducing a strategy from it.

Arriving in good shape

The stretch before the fight runs through CEG Tower and the Alternate Facility. Resources you spend there are resources you will not have at the end.

Avoid optional fights in that stretch specifically. A melee weapon close to breaking is worth more intact at a boss than used on an enemy you could have walked past.

If you have found the Axe or the Pistol-3000, this is the encounter they were being saved for.

If you get stuck

  • Drop combat difficulty to story — the trophy list has no difficulty requirements
  • Leave puzzle difficulty where it is; the two settings are independent
  • Check whether you are carrying an IV bag for the one fatal hit it absorbs
  • Save at a phone booth beforehand, unless you are running Reject The Help
  • Remember blocking only works with a melee weapon in hand

What a real strategy will need to cover

Until those are answered from play, a strategy section would be creative writing at the single worst moment to be wrong.

  • The phases of the fight and what changes between them
  • Openings — when the encounter is actually vulnerable
  • Which of the nine weapons is worth spending here
  • Whether noise still attracts additional enemies during the fight
  • Whether the arena offers cover, hiding spots or anything to manipulate

Preparing without a strategy

You cannot plan for mechanics you have not seen, but you can arrive with options. That means an intact melee weapon for blocking, whatever ammunition you saved, an IV bag, and throwables in case the arena has something to manipulate.

It also means arriving with a recent save. Phone booths are the manual save points, and the stretch before a boss is exactly where a save is worth the detour.

Finally, it means being willing to drop difficulty. Nothing in the trophy list punishes you for it, and a boss you cannot pass is worth more as a boss you did pass.

What we know about the approach to the fight

The beat immediately before it, Can't Change Things, asks you to exhaust every option in the Alternate Facility. That phrasing suggests a sequence about running out of alternatives rather than about combat.

Whether that means the fight arrives with resources already spent, or with something specific granted, is not documented.

What is documented is the order, and the order is the most useful thing you have: once you are in the Alternate Facility, the end of the game is next.
