Silent Hill: Townfall was made by Screen Burn Interactive, an independent studio of about 30 people in Glasgow, Scotland, and published by Konami with Annapurna Interactive. Until July 2025 the studio was called No Code, the team behind Stories Untold (2017) and Observation (2019). Why No Code became Screen Burn

No Code renamed itself Screen Burn Interactive on July 23, 2025, more than a year before Townfall shipped. The new name refers to "the ghost of an image burned into an old CRT screen", which the studio compared to a game that stays imprinted on your memory.

Founder and creative director Jon McKellan explained it to VGC: "We're not who we were in 2015. For a start, we have coders now!" The studio started as a two-person team, and the old name had become a joke that no longer fit. The partnership with Konami and Annapurna, and work on Townfall, carried on unchanged.

The CRT theme runs straight into the game: Simon's CRTV, a handheld analogue television, is your map, radar and puzzle tool.

How the CRTV works

Stories Untold and Observation

Both earlier games are built on the same idea Townfall uses: horror delivered through the screens, dials and machines you operate. If you liked how Townfall makes you tune a CRTV to find a signal, those two games are where that style comes from.

Kezia Burrows, who voices Zoe, also voiced Emma in Observation.

How the studio got Silent Hill

According to Wikipedia, Konami learned of the studio through its co-publisher Annapurna Interactive, and development began in 2022. The game was first shown with a teaser trailer that year; the cast trailer and full gameplay followed in 2026.

Townfall is set in a fictional Scottish town, St. Amelia, modelled on the Fife fishing village of St Monans. It is a Scottish story made by a Scottish studio.
