Where reviews split is the stealth. GameDaily summed it up as critics disagreeing on whether the stealth stays engaging or becomes frustrating, and VGC's 3/5 is built around it. The Weight, a stalker that killed you in one grab and lingered by your hiding spot, was the main target.
The studio responded within a week. Patch 1.4.0 on October 8 turned The Weight's grab into heavy damage on Story and Normal difficulty and made it hunt and camp less, so the stealth reviewers played is harsher than the game today.
