Richard at a glance

Konami announced O'Quinn with the cast trailer at gamescom 2026, alongside Jovan Adepo (Simon) and Kezia Burrows (Zoe). His performance has since been nominated for Best Supporting Performer at the Golden Joystick Awards.

Playing as Richard: Part 5

Part 5 switches control to Richard inside CEG HQ, the company tower. Chapter 12, Richard: Getting Inside, has you start a generator so the elevator will take you in. Chapter 13, Richard: Another Attempt, is a loop between the 5th-floor Boardroom and the offices below, ending with the projector presentation and the CEO Access Card.

The tower is full of Widows. Kills you make as Richard do not count toward the ending score, so you can use the Shotgun freely here without changing which ending Simon gets.

Reject The Help: the trophy Richard starts

Reject The Help is a gold trophy for never manually saving after you meet Richard. PowerPyx notes that when you meet him the game prompts you once to save by calling 100 on a phone; that first save is allowed. Back out of the save menu afterwards and never call 100 again on that run. Autosaves are fine.

It is one of the 17 missable trophies, so do it on a run where you know the route, not on the run where you are hunting collectibles and saving often.

Who Richard really is (spoilers)

Richard ran CEG by cutting costs. A faulty part on the SWDP rig would have cost millions and weeks of downtime to fix, so he had his usual inspector do the safety visits and the fault was overlooked. After a whistleblower raised concerns, Simon was brought in from the US as an independent inspector. Shortly after he arrived, the rig caught fire and everyone on it except Simon died.

Suspended by his board, Richard still sees himself as the man who saved St. Amelia. He paid for Simon's heart transplant, and in his eyes it was an investment: the price was that Simon blame the dead engineer Joe McKenzie at the tribunal. When Simon wavers, Richard threatens him with a scalpel.

His help over the CRTV is part of the same deal. Every time Richard guides Simon, he is steering his star witness. The fog town is a purgatory, and Richard's personal hell is his own tower, which is why Part 5 takes place there.

What happens to Richard in each ending

All three main endings play out on the pier with the Flare Gun, and your hidden score, not a button press, decides which one you get.

How the ending score works

• Justice: Simon fires the flare into the sky and the Collapse comes for Richard. In the real world Simon refuses to lie, and Richard stabs him in his hospital bed, losing his star witness
• Forever: Simon fires into the sky but cannot let go, and wakes back at the start of the loop
• Abandoned: Simon shoots Richard. His voice keeps mocking Simon over the CRTV, and with Richard dead, CEG escapes the tribunal
• Dog: a guide-dog charity statue takes Simon and Richard to the pub to talk it out
• Sci-fi: Simon wakes in a cryo pod next to Richard's
