Silent Hill Townfall Difficulty, Cheats and Trainers
Updated 2026-10-12 · Category: Guide
Silent Hill: Townfall has two separate difficulty settings. Combat difficulty is Story (fewer enemies with less health and damage), Normal or Nightmare (more, tougher enemies that can spot your flashlight in the dark). Puzzle difficulty is Hinted (puzzle items and documents highlighted) or Normal (no help). No trophy depends on difficulty, so the platinum can be earned on Story with Hinted puzzles. The game has no built-in cheat codes; Story and Hinted are the official way to make it easier, and PC trainers are unofficial third-party tools.

The two settings are independent. You can play Story combat with unhinted puzzles, or Nightmare combat with hints on.
| Setting | Option | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Combat | Story | Fewer enemies, with less health and less damage |
| Combat | Normal | The intended balance of stealth, combat and resources |
| Combat | Nightmare | More enemies with more health and damage; they can spot your flashlight in dark areas |
| Puzzles | Hinted | Puzzle items and documents are highlighted, which speeds runs up |
| Puzzles | Normal | No hints; solve puzzles as designed, which adds a lot of time |
Which difficulty should you pick?
- First run, here for the story: Story combat, Hinted puzzles. Nothing is locked out.
- First run, want the intended experience: Normal combat with Hinted puzzles, the compromise reviewers recommend.
- Puzzle fans: any combat level with Normal puzzles. This is where most of the extra hours come from.
- Second run or New Game Plus: Nightmare if you want a challenge. No trophy rewards it.
Can you change difficulty mid-game?
Yes, according to Playnews: combat and puzzle difficulty both sit in the Options menu and can be switched at any point in a playthrough without reloading your save. That makes dropping to Story for one hard stretch and back up again a normal thing to do.
The obvious stretch is The Weight. Since Patch 1.4.0, its grab deals heavy damage on Story and Normal instead of killing you outright; Konami's notes do not mention Nightmare.

Silent Hill Townfall Wiki · original text diagram, no AI or game assets · Material statementDoes difficulty affect trophies or endings?
No trophy is tied to difficulty, and Reliving A Nightmare, for finishing New Game Plus, accepts any difficulty. Trophy guides recommend doing everything on Story with Hinted puzzles.
Endings are not tied to difficulty either. The three main endings depend on your score of kills against discoveries, so difficulty only matters indirectly: fewer enemies on Story means fewer fights you are tempted to take.
Are there cheats or trainers?
There are no cheat codes in Silent Hill: Townfall, and no unlockable cheat menu has been reported. New Game Plus is the closest thing to a reward mode, and only your Strange Postcards carry over into it.
Searches for a Townfall trainer refer to third-party PC tools that edit the game's memory, for things like health or ammo. They are not made or supported by Konami or Screen Burn, they can break with each patch, and downloading them from unknown sites is a common way to pick up malware. If you only want an easier run, Story combat and Hinted puzzles do the same job safely and keep trophies intact.
